How are the lobsters shipped?

All orders are shipped UPS or FedEx overnight. We overnight the live lobsters to you in a special box designed to keep the lobsters cold and healthy. It is important that someone is there to receive the lobsters and immediately cook them or transfer them to a cold, dry place, like the vegetable bins of your refrigerator. We recommend you cook them within 24 hours of receiving them for the freshest, tastiest lobster.

What are the different sizes of lobsters?

  • Jumbo – the biggies!  jumbo lobsters weigh between 1.71 and 4.5 lbs
  • Large – these lobsters weigh between 1.36 and 1.7 lbs
  • Medium – weigh between 1.21 and 1.35 lbs
  • Culls – are lobsters with 1 claw – their weight will vary
  • Bullets – are lobsters with no claws (all body/tail meat) – their weight will vary

How do I cook the lobsters?

The simple method:

1. If you are brave, clip the rubber bands off of the lobster claws (keep fingers and noses away from freed claws!). Otherwise, leave them on for cooking.

2. Put 2 – 3 inches of water in a large pot, bring it to a boil, put live lobsters in the pot, add some salt, cover.

3. Let steam for 17 minutes for 1 pound size lobsters, or 18-20 minutes for 1 and 1/4 pound or 1 and 1/2 pound lobsters.

4. Remove from water, let drain and cool in sink before serving.

What are mussels, steamers, whoopie pies, etc??

Mussels: are the dark shelled mollusks that people steam and eat like clams. You’ll often see them served in restaurants steamed in wine as an appetizer. You can steam them in water, wine, beer anything (you can add herbs, onions, garlic, etc) and eat them right out of the shell or over a pasta. Make sure you only eat the ones that open while cooking.

Steamers: are soft shelled clams that are great for steaming. Again, you can create a broth or just steam them in water and then dip in a little melted butter while eating. As with all shellfish, only eat the ones that open while cooking.

Whoopie Pies: are a traditional New England treat made of two individual sized, round chocolate cakes with butter cream in the middle.
